This book examines the legislative and executive environment for adolescent health in Latin America and the Caribbean. It presents the results of a project on health policies for adolescents that is supported by the Pan American Health Organization and The George Washington University's Center for International Health, that concluded on December 31, 1996.

Results of the study include a model based on the link between health and development for promoting the health of adolescents and youth; a review of the legislative environment and policies on the health and socioeconomic development of adolescents in the Region; analytical models of national legislation and policies on adolescents; a model for the global development of health policies on adolescents and young people; and a fact sheet entitled "The Faces of Youth,"which can be adapted to every country of the Region.

These results are offered as tools to facilitate advocacy, research, and policy development and to strengthen education and services aimed at ensuring health protection and promotion, thus fostering socioeconomic development and the empowerment of young people.
