$18.00 Latin America and the Caribbean / $18.00 Elsewhere

Description

Order code: OP 157

This publication presents experiences on eradicating and controlling hydatidosis, offers perspectives on eradication, examines advanced technology in control methods, and looks at the hydatidosis panorama in Latin America. The book gathers the contributions of distinguished field scientists with experience in control and eradication programs, as well as surveillance activities and the preparation of plans of action for the eradication of the disease in various situations. The methods included can be tailored to local conditions.

Hydatid disease has been eradicated from Iceland; New Zealand and Tasmania are on the verge of being declared hydatid-free; the disease is under control in Cyprus, Argentina, and Chile; and the incidence of hydatidosis has been reduced in Uruguay and Spain. Yet much remains to be done worldwide. This publication should help political and technical authorities in countries where hydatid disease remains a public health problem, both in terms of decision making and for organizing programs directed toward the elimination of this zoonosis.
