Violence in the Americas

$10.00 Latin America and the Caribbean / $14.00 Elsewhere

Description

Order code: CH 10

Violence is rapidly growing into an enormous public health problem in the Americas. In fact, so serious has violence become throughout the Region that in some countries there are indications that a 'culture of violence' is on the rise. Although nobody is immune from violence, women, children, adolescents, and the elderly seem to be its main victims.

This booklet sketches the scope of the problem and its implications for the Region's countries. By presenting an overview of the causes and types of violence, as well as of the efforts to combat it, this publication hopes to alert governments and citizens alike to the urgency of putting in place violence prevention programs.
