Description

Order code: OP 116

This is a bilingual publication.
Changes in the Hemisphere's political and economic climate, have brought inequities in health care to the table in the countries' political agendas. Currently, the health sector faces enormous challenges such as discrimination and poverty, conditions that often translate into high morbidity and mortality rates among the poor and marginalized populations. PAHO, in its commitment to achieving social equity, is involved in the countries' reform processes.

This document will serve as a conceptual framework for technical cooperation in the sectoral reform processes. The first part of the book describes conditions that have brought about increased interest in health sector reform, including changing political conditions and economic restructuring. The second part details PAHO's role in the health sector reform processes, main areas of cooperation, and modalities of cooperation.
