Description

Order code: TP 43

The most important malaria vector in Central America was the object of a PAHO-coordinated research project carried out in all the countries of the subregion--Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Using similar methodologies, researchers in each country studied the reproduction and behavior of the mosquito Anopheles albimanus and related these factors to the risk of malaria transmission. This publication reports the findings of the project, which represented not only an advance in basic knowledge of the vector but also a significant logistical accomplishment among the countries. Personnel in malaria control programs and researchers in vector biology can use the findings of this study to help identify or modify strategies for the control of Anopheles albimanus.
