This document assesses the role of the medical entomologist in vector-borne disease research and control, and discusses prospects for education and employment opportunities in this profession in the Americas. It presents the results of a project cosponsored by the Fogarty International Center of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, PAHO, and WHO, in which country case studies were conducted to determine the status of medical entomology in Columbia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Panama.
